Page Synopsis:
This page is dedicated to Outdoor Venues that can be utilised for field trips and camps, and the accessibility of such venues, to aid in the execution of the outdoor based activities and curricula specific to the area of study 2 and the specific key knowlege no.1, of Outdoor and Environmental Studies unit 4.

Bogong High Plains:
For a school who wants to spend or has a few extra dollers lying around, they can head off to the Bogong High Plains in the North-Eastern corner of Victoria. It is in a section of the Alpine National Park situated south of Mount Bogong. This area forms part of Australia's Great Dividing Range and in winter is one of the largest snow covered areas in the country. It can be easily accessed from the ski resorts of Mount Hotham and Falls Creek.

Directions:
Going North on the Hume Highway, turn right Benella towards Mytleford. Follow this road to Bright. Once at Bright, decide if you are entering the Bogong High Plains from Mt Hotham or from Falls Creek. Follow signs to either destination.
For winter; No parking of Busses are allowed at either resort, but for the Falls Creek area, you can park in Bogong if your lucky or at the bottom of The Staircase Walking Track, east of Mount Beauty.
During the Summer; parking is allowed in most area's but best to check with either resort management or National Parks Victoira.
Weather:
Weather plays an important role up in the High Plains - BE PREPARED for anything. Be it summer or winter, dress accordingly and be prepared for any weather situation - be it sunshine, overcast or a white-out. Either can occur, and it can change at a drop of a coin.

Teacher Pre-requesites:
Teacher interested in taking groups of students up to the High Plains should:
  • be Physicaly Fit (ie. able to walk with a full ruck-sack for multiple days in a row...)
  • have a minimum of a 10 day Wilderness First Aid
  • Advance Navigational skills equivilant to Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation
Activities that can be ran in the Bogong High Plains:
  • Bushwalking
  • Cross-Country Skiing (Ski Touring)
